New DC logo

With the release of The New 52 series, DC Comics have been busy updating many of their characters and stories in the last year or so and have now decided that the time is right to update their iconic logo too.

The idea behind the new designs is explained by John Reed, DC Comic's EVP of Sales:

“It’s a new era at DC Entertainment and the new look reflects a dynamic, bold approach while at the same time celebrates the company’s rich heritage and robust portfolio of characters. It was just a few months ago that SupermanBatman and many of our other Super Heroes were updated when we launched DC Comics – The New 52 and now it’s time to do the same for the company’s identity while remaining true to the power of storytelling which is still at the heart of DC Entertainment.”

It's a versatile design, illustrated by the numerous ways it can be adapted to highlight many of DC's favourite characters and titles.

Watchmen

The design is also being incorporated into advertising and promotional materials.

Like any new logo that replaces a particularly iconic one they'll be a period of getting used to it, but personally I really like the design.

In any case, DC have already anticipated any negative reaction from die-hard fans...
