The problem(s) with modern movie posters

Last May I posted this.

Seems like people still have similar gripes with artwork designed to promote a movie.

Gone are the days of the movie poster people would be proud to buy, frame and hang on their walls.

But why?

Well, this may go some way to explaining it.

Some great points made.

No doubt, the studios have a big role to play in the reduction of creativity, either from a feedback or budget point-of-view.

But they can't be completely responsible.

As creatives, it's our job to push the most original thoughts and executions and our passion, more often than not, can win any client over. The ideas seem to be out there - illustrated by some the incredible fan art being produced across the world - but for some reason they're not being bought. Instead, tired old cliches and formulaic layouts seem to constantly get the nod.

Here's hoping for a change in the future and a return to the past, where artwork to be proud of was a requirement and not just a nice-to-have.
